RISK ASSESSMENT TOOLS

Currently 1 in 8 women have a lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. With technological advances we have so many ways of checking on individualized risk to help understand and reduce our personal risk.

There are basic calculators that you can  use online to see if you are at an increased risk based on personal and hereditary factors. Knowing your risk helps to determine the most appropriate breast imaging for you and if you are at increased risk you may be eligible for additional screening exams to ensure your health.

Results may differ between these calculations so consider them to be a jumping point to determine if you should consider seeing a specialist or having genetic testing. If you score higher than 20% with any risk tool you should talk with your doctor about added prevention

Mapping your personal risk based on a blood or saliva sample is going to give you the most information about personal likelihood of cancer development. If you qualify for genetic testing you are in prime position to not only know your cancer risk but to take steps to mitigate it.

Check the next few slides to access some of the calculators and learn more about genetic testing options.
